A tree to 15 m tall, sometimes shrubby, the leaves brown tomentose beneath. Acorns borne on a stalk to 6 cm long and with a characteristic wavy-edged cup.We have recently planted our specimen out in its final position in Area West of Tapir Orchard and it seems to have come through the last three winters unscathed. It grew well in 2010 and even produced some flowers. It has come through the bad weather so far this winter unscathed and it has grown to 1.3 m. It remains my favourite tree in the collection.
