Taxon Description:
An evergreen shrub reaching 2-3 m tall, more rarely a tree. Leaves leathery and blue-green, smooth on both sides, to about 3 x 2 cm, the margins wavy and with usually 4-6 spiny teeth on each side. Acorns ripening the first year, 15 cm long, borne singly or in pairs, the cup shallow and usually less than 1 cm across.
