Taxon Description:
An evergreen tree reaching 20-30 tall in the wild with dark brown bark and young shoots with conspicuous lenticels. Leaves oblong to elliptic, to 10 cm long, taper-pointed at the tip and toothed in the upper half, glossy dark green above, paler and glossy beneath. Acorns ovoid, to 2.5 cm long in a hairy cup bearing 7-8 rings of concentric scales, ripening in the second year. This species was in introduced by Allen Coombes from Taiwan in 2003.
