Taxon Description:
This was originally distributed by Hillier Nurseries as Quercus hypoleucoides but was found to be a hybrid with Q. emoryi . It is more vigorous than either parent in cultivation and has leathery, untoothed leaves, reddish when young and densely covered in grey hairs beneath that rub off easily. A tree planted in 1968 has reached 11 m at the Hillier Gardens.We have a tree of this hybrid which is well established and attractive at about 5.5 m.
